Evaluation Question 7 - Looking back at the Preliminary Task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

During the filming of our preliminary task, we were told to focus on using different types of angles and shots, in order for us to have an understanding of how it is to film, and what makes a film perfect with their use of shots. Whilst filming for both preliminary and production, we learnt about different shots used in films, from which angles and how. At the times, we decided to use a variety of different shots, different to the preliminary because this was the real project and to make it look more professional, we used different shots.

Shot Reverse Shot

This was used in both preliminary and production filming, it was used when there are two people facing each other having some sort of interaction on screen. It was used during the preliminary when I was talking to a younger student about A levels. It was also used during the Grindylow, when Percy's boss arrives out of nowhere and tells him by hand gestures, to speed up his work.

180 Degree Rule

We used this in the preliminary task when I was sitting talking to a young girl about what A levels I am doing. We had already thought of what kind of shots we wanted to do during the preliminary filming, for the task but never expected the amount of takes it took to perfect the shot. This evidently helped me during the official production filming because it helped me think of different shots to make and how to do them.

Preliminary 180 Degree

Match-on-Action

This is when a shot shows continuity from one shot, to the other. It is important because the audience must know what is going on in which moment and if it does not follow the last shot, then it would confuse the audience because they wouldn't understand what is going on in the film.

We used this in both films, We used this so that the audience could understand why there is a sudden change in atmosphere, their enigmas would be created. Such as in our Grindylow, if there were no cuts and it was all a continuation from one shot, then there would be no meaning to the story and the irrelevance would confuse the audience and lure them to having it instead of enjoy it.
Shots

There were many shots used in both the preliminary and the production of filming. Main ones were the esablishing shot and the Close ups. The close ups were used to show the expression on someone's face because from that you could tell exactly what their going through.

Beneath is the picture of an Establishing shot from the preliminary task. We used this to show exactly where the two girls are walking, the fact that their uniform is visible and there is an fire alarm on the right wall instantly tells the audience that they are in a school.
Preliminary Task
In the final product of our film, we decided to set the location exactly in school. This was because we wanted the film to be somewhere it wouldnt' be expected to be. The genre does initially imply what the film would roughly be like but still there are bits and pieces of the film that the audience themselves have to figure it out.
The Grindylow
The close ups we used in both the preliminary task and the final product we to show the expressions on the characters face because that showed the mood and feeling of the person.

The picture above shows me, the expression is that I am talking but I was talking about enjoying a subject that is quite hard, my face is bright and gloomy and it shows that I am in a good mood and that for now nothing is wrong with me, or my mood.

The image above shows our protagonist looking around to see where his boss had gone as he suddenly diasppeared. The expression on his face shows that he is somewhat confused and scared because he doesn't know how his boss has gone and how he went so quick. We decided to use this shot because we thought that the audience would understand why the charater's expressions are weird and our of the ordinary. His face may also inform the audience that something bad may happen and he is frightened of this.
