Evaluation Question 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What does a production company do?

A production company are responsible for the protection, completion, concept and plot of a film. They are legally and financially responsible for everything involved in the process of that film. It deals with marketing, finance, pre and post production, budget, schedule, location/ props and sound of the film.

My logo and company name is 'Coldblood Productions' - the reason for this was because of the plot of the film and the genre of it. It is at the start of our film, where there is eerie sounds that reflects the company name and logo. We chose the name 'Coldblood' because of the genre Thriller. It has aspects of some blood and when a person thinks of cold blood, they would think of a dead body or something very dull, dark, scary and deadly. This emphasises the name of our production and the nature behind it. The fact that the logo is red, pointed and chilled as if it were frozen reflects the whole idea of a thriller genre.

This is the Final product of our logo that I made.
At the beginning of our film, there are credits shown of those involved in the film itself and the production of it. The fact that there are a 3- 5 seconds pauses inbetween each credit shown, means that the audience get a climpse of who specifically worked in the film, they won't get confused by the names shown as they can see it clearly stated on the screen during those pauses. The credits were; 'A MARIAM NAWAB Film', 'Filmed by Chloe Wakeling', 'Edited by Ruheet Hasnath', 'Directed by Mariam Nawab', starring, 'Carl Caperina', 'Raman Bahra' and 'Mariam Nawab'. The colour of the credits differ from white and red. Most of the credits are red, to symbolise the use of genre, Thriller and the white ones are used to contradict that.

The credit - 'Directed by Mariam Nawab'
What is a Film Distributor? And who would distribute your film?

A film distributor is a company that is responsible in itself, in releasing a film to the public either in the theatre - cinema, or on a DVD or something as such, for home playing. They can do this directly depending on whether they own the theatre of network, or they can do it through sub-distributors of theatre exhibitors. The possible distributors for our film could be Virgin TV, Sky Showcase or Lionsgate, a thriller franchise. The reason why these may be our distributors is because they are very popular and are viewed at a high rate, this means that if our film were to be advertised on these then it will increase the chance of gainig publicity in terms of existance, as a production. Lionsgate is well-known for it's thriller work and the fact that they may associate themselves with our film has its advantages because they have distributed popular and common movies such as SAW saga, The Condemned, Rambo, The Last Exorcism etc. These movies are very popularly watched by a lot of people and if our film were to be shown by them, then we would also gain popularity and our viewings will increase intensively. The stores in which the DVD for this film can be sold in, HMV, Tesco, Argos, Blockbuster, Lovefilm.com and Sainsbury's. The reason why these few would sell them is because these are also very popular and high in demand in terms of the media and, specifically HMV, if they were to sell our film, we would gain a big profit and our target audience would be happy because of the age certification.

Another distributor could be New Line Cinema, this is because they are well known for their epic and outsanding movies such as Lord of the Rings Trilogy, A nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and many more Thriller movies. As our film is a Thriller movie, they can distribute it and it may be a guarantee that we will get a lot of viewers because of this distributor's past work. The funding for out film most likely would come from these two company's because of their work and how the public acknowledge them.

NewLines Cinema, as our Distributor.
